So, I committed the sin of not reading the product description very closely, but this time it worked out. This is just to say that beside the classic, warm, kind illustrations and texts of Maurice Sendak "...sipping once, sipping twice, sipping Chicken Soup with rice!" these books are tiny, something I would have seen had I paid better attention. No complaints - this was a pleasant surprise.

The books fit in the palm of your hand. A four-year-old I know is ecstatic. He loves to carry around these tiny, pocket-size volumes of Russian poetry and now he's got his own literature in miniature. A secret to keep in his pocket. A joy to a parent when he recites what he's been read. The books are hardcover, the box solid but adorable.

This is my baby's first set of books and she absolutely loves them because they're little and her fingers can handle opening them up. And with Maurice Sendak, you can't go wrong. Just looking at them sitting on the shelf when she's done makes me smile. I smile even more when she has the set spread out around her, tapping each one and then choosing one to read. )
LOVE Maurice Sendack! These are a third generation gift...first to my bff when she was a child, then to her kids (and mine,) now to my neighbor's tot. Young mother loved them for her 2-year-old AND had never heard of them. Classic and wonderful for small hands, thiough becareful if the young one likes to tear pages, they are paper, not cardboard. Wonderful stories. Carol King also wrote a musical based on these books. The little 2-year-old LOVES the stories! I love them, myself! I will continue to gift to young parents & their children. Highly Recommend!
I read these books to my children; now I am reading them to my grandchildren. They are identical to the beautiful editions I had bought 30 years ago.
I bet I've bought 20 of these book sets as baby gifts over the years! I adored Maurice Sendak's books as a child and still as an adult.....and this little set is an absolute classic!!!
I loved these books as a child and wanted them for my nephews for Christmas. I understood from the online description that these books were small. But when I saw them in person, they were much smaller than the description, which even included an image of a hand holding the books. They are not worth the almost $13 I paid. This is the fourth item I've had to return just this month because it falls woefully short of the description. I've never had problems ordering from . The past three months I've had nothing but problems. What is happening?
It's so TINY. Might not be great for very young or clumsy/destructive kids because of the size, but my mother who grew up with the original release says they're a perfect match. Four little books by the always great Maurice Sendak. Something to keep in mind if you are getting them for a child though, as the books were written in the early 60s, one of them, Alligators All Around contains a page with an outdated depiction of a Native American, nothing to the level of Peter Pan, but modern families may not be expecting it
The Nutshell Library is a classic. Inside the small slipcase (ca. 3 x 4 inches) are 4 books written and illustrated by the great Maurice Sendak. My daughter and I loved them in the late 1960s, and I could still remember quite a few lines almost 50 years later. I purchased a copy of the Nutshell Library this year to use with the two 2nd graders with whom I was doing reading practice. These books were "dessert" after they read their assigned books. Both of them loved the books so much that I purchased 2 new copies and gave a copy to each of them at the end of school. I recommend this to every parent and grandparent--you can start reading them to new borns and the books will never grow old. There is something magic about 4 small books held together in a case. I now know all four books by heart, and I have enjoyed reading them as much as my 2 second grade girls. I'm smiling now just thinking about them.
